Orphans and widows center (Orongo Farms) was established by Mama Florence, a widow and an evangelist who felt the need to support the vulnerable and less privileged in her society. The centre identifies, accommodates, trains and empower orphans, widows, widowers and the mentally unstable in various communities who seem to have lost all hope because they have no support to live comfortable lives.
Unlike many orphanages accross Africa who solely depend on donor funds to survive, Mama Florence trains victims in the craft of turning used materials into useful stuff (like earings, reuseable sanitary pads, beads, flower vase etc) which serves as an income generating activity for the sustainability of the centre and for victims to have a trade when they leave to pursue a life on their own.
She also keeps a farm, where all that is harvested is used in feeding of the orphans and the sale of some which generates income is used for the upkeep of the centre. For the past years, Mama Florence has been able to rehabilitate 1000 widows and educate orphans who are now in the universities through her non-formal educational methods.

Victoria Friendly Montessori School collaborates with FreeKenya Foundation and other organizations undertaking several projects! Children are being trained on how to produce food for consumption at school but these training are not inadequate (formal). Capacity building activities offered by organisations seems to be necessary (non-formal). When the kids are going back home, they implement similar projects in collaboration with the FreeKenya Foundation. The guardians of the kids are also participating in this kind of food production.
Takataka2Pesa is a group of resourceful women in Netherlands and Kenya who recycle old stuff into jewelry, clothes and other decorative items for income generation.
