As the aim of the Job Shadowing was to develop a non-formal educational activity based on the local needs and with the scope to promote sustainability. In the Tamale metropolis, several talented footballers complete senior high school with poor grades. They neither get to enter tertiary institutions nor possess employable skills. Some become social misfits! So sustaining this group of people in the educational sector is problematic.
Participants interacted with 10 talented students-footballers and exchanged ideas on how they can pursue their dreams. The students expressed their obstacles and dreams concerning their future career. Later, students and participants played a friendly football match.
A fruitful discussion was also held between the participants and stakeholders in the fields of education and sports. Teachers, entrepreneurs, sports journalists, and former footballers shared their opinions regarding the talented students. Working in groups with the participants, they came up with interventions and ways of approaching, identifying and training in a more inclusive and effective way the talented students without disregarding or disregarded by the educational system.
The group examined ways that talented students who are usually left behind by the current educational system, could be empowered and improve their competencies by enhancing their talents within education. A new educational model that uses non-formal learning and match their talents was developed, namely the SEDARVP Soccer Academy which is also included in the educational module (see here).
We would like to thank WE AfriHug for supporting and participating in this project!
Their involvement was highly valuable for the success of this Job Shadowing.
